Ridley Scott talks to the BBC about why his classic Blade Runner movie has stood the test of time as he prepares to release a new final cut version of the science fiction classic!

When will we learn? Probably never! Its all well and good sacking Steve McClaren who if we are being honest is nothing more than an average manager, what did he achieve at Middlesbrough in the first place that made the FA believe him to be the most gifted man for the job? The truth is he achieved nothing of true merit, and as usual with the English way he was elevated by the powers that be into a position that he was never truly qualified for.

We have to look at the way the game is ran in this country, I for one love the quality foreign players in the league, but we also have a wealth of average foreign players stopping home grown talent of coming through and developing. I believe any player regardless of where they are from should be able to learn from the likes of Carlos Tevez, Petr Cech, Ronaldo etc all true quality and bringing top draw skills to the Premier League, but English talent needs to be given the chance to get through and develop and to do this the wealth of average foreign talent needs to be controlled. The best way of doing this would be to introduce a quota on the amount of foreign players a club can have.

Next and perhaps hardest for people to accept is to look at the players England have at their disposal. Maybe the players we have are not as great as we fool ourselves into believing they are? At the end of the day they were played off the pitch by the Croatian team and looked more uncomfortable on the ball than any England team I think I’ve ever seen, and I believe through the hype of the Premier League, huge wages and out of control player egos, agents, spiraling ticket prices and the smug attitudes of the powers that be at securing massive fees for the television rights we have lost sight of the bigger picture and what things are needed to truly make England a true football super power! Will this be the wake up call needed? I doubt it!
